Lansing Lugnuts News Release

APPLETON, Wis. - The Lansing Lugnuts (7-15) held off a furious ninth inning rally to defeat the host Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (9-13), 8-6, to clinch their first series victory of the season on Sunday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field.

The Timber Rattlers collected 17 hits in the game but stranded 10 men on base and had two runners thrown out at the plate and one at third.

Lansing led 8-4 entering the ninth inning, but Yorman Mayora allowed three straight one-out base hits and walked Corey Kemp to force in a run. Matt Daly relieved Mayora and tossed a wild pitch to bring home Wisconsin's sixth run and move the potential tying runs into scoring position. A second delivery from Daly bounced away from catcher Jon Talley, but Talley recovered the ball quickly and pegged it to Daly in time to tag out Brock Kjelgaard at the plate for the second out. Daly walked Michael Vass before retiring Edgar Trejo on a fly out to end the game and record his second save of the season.

John Anderson (1-1) earned his first victory of the season for the Lugnuts, allowing three runs on eight hits in six innings while striking out seven.

Wisconsin starter Efrain Nieves (1-2) suffered the loss for the Timber Rattlers, serving up six runs (three earned) on six hits, including Yohermyn Chavez's fifth homer and Mike McDade's fourth homer of the season.

The Lugnuts stole six bases in the game, three by lead-off hitter Kenny Wilson and two by #2 batter Tyler Pastornicky.

Lansing will look for the series sweep of the Timber Rattlers on Monday at 1:05 EDT with Lugnuts right-hander Josh Wells (0-2, 9.26) opposing Wisconsin right-hander Wily Peralta (0-0, 1.69).
