Lugbauer Homers, M-Braves Take First Road Loss of Season to Lookouts 8-3

CHATTANOOGA, TN - The Mississippi Braves (3-3) took their first road loss of the season, falling 8-3 to the Chattanooga Lookouts (3-3) in front of a crowd of 4,677 on Thursday night at AT&T Field.

Drew Lugbauer smacked his 48th career home run as an M-Brave, adding to his own record.

LHP Andrew Abbott spun six innings of two-hit ball in his second start of the season, racking up a career-high 14 strikeouts. Chattanooga blasted four home runs, accounting for six of their eight runs. The Lookouts led 6-0 through six innings.

RHP Alan Rangel allowed five runs off five hits and a walk with eight strikeouts over five innings in his 2023 debut.

In the seventh, Landon Stephens and Javier Valdes drew walks to start the inning. Lugbauer blasted a three-run homer to right field to cut the lead to 6-3. The first baseman's homer had a 109 mile per hour exit velocity and went over 400 feet. Lugbauer went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI and now has two home runs on the season.

Cade Bunnell lined a triple to right center in the seventh. He has three extra-base hits in the series.

The M-Braves struck out 20 times and left five runners stranded in the 8-3 loss.

The fourth game of the series is on Friday at AT&T Field. RHP Tanner Gordon (1-0, 0.00) will make the start for Mississippi against RHP Connor Phillips (0-0, 0.00) for Chattanooga. The first pitch is at 6:15 pm CT, with coverage starting at 6:00 pm CT on 102.1 The Box, First Pitch App, and MiLB.tv.
