Curve, Pa. - The Altoona Curve defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 7-3 on Friday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Pat Ludwig tossed six innings and helped his own cause with a double and a pair of RBIs in the victory and also had some help from Willy Garcia, who went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored while extending his hit streak to 12 games, one shy of his career-high.

Altoona struck for their first run of the game in the third inning. After Garcia extended his hit streak to 12 games with a leadoff double, he later scored on an RBI single by Kelson Brown.

The Curve used a big fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead. Elias Diaz led off the inning with a single down the right field line and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Andy Vasquez. After Jarek Cunningham was intentionally walked to bring up Ludwig, the pitcher worked the count to 2-2 and shot a double out to right center that scored both Diaz and Cunningham. Ludwig later scored on an RBI single from Gift Ngoepe.

The Squirrels attacked in the fifth. After Ludwig allowed the bases to be loaded, the right hander surrendered bases-clearing double to Mario Lisson to make it a 4-3 game.

In the home half of the fifth, the Curve responded. Garcia collected his second hit of the game, a two-run double off the top of the center field wall which scored Stetson Allie and Diaz.

Garcia put his final stamp in the ballgame in the eighth inning. The left fielder belted a solo home run to lead off the eighth inning. During his current hit streak, Garcia is batting .458.

Ludwig (3-4) earned the win after he slung his third quality start of the season. The former Yale Bulldog allowed three runs on six hits over six innings of work while striking out three batters and is 2-0 since returning to the Curve from the Bradenton Marauders. Richmond starter Ty Blach (7-6) suffered the loss for Richmond.

Altoona continues their four-game series with Richmond on Saturday night with another great night of promotions slated for the fans. The first 1,500 fans to the ballpark when the gates open at 5 p.m. will receive the Gerrit Cole Radar Gun T-Shirt. Saturday's game is also Scout Night and after the game Kids Can Run the Bases.

RHP Adrian Sampson (9-5, 2.69) will take the hill for the Curve as he guns for his team-high tenth win of the season. He'll be opposed by LHP Jack Snodgrass (9-4, 3.14). First pitch is at 6 p.m. while pregame on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM, and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
