St. Paul Saints News Release
SIOUX CITY, IA (May 14, 2008) - The St. Paul Saints played their third longest game in franchise history and after four hours and 24 minutes and 13 innings they defeated the Sioux City Explorers 6-3 to remain perfect at 6-0 on Wednesday night at Lewis and Clark Park.
In the 13th Scooter Jordan led off the inning with a single and was sacrificed to second by Brian Sprout. After an intentional walk to Brent Krause, Marcel Longmire singled to left scoring Jordan. Jason Colson followed that with a two-run single for the deciding mark.
The Saints bullpen once again was outstanding hurling 7.0 shutout innings allowing one hit and have allowed just one run in 28.1 innings pitched. Tony Pierce worked a perfect 13th for his first save of the season.
The game went extra innings because of Tim Brown on two separate occasions. With the Saints trailing 3-2 in the eighth inning and Kevin Sullivan at first Brown doubled off the center field wall that drove home the tying run.
In the ninth the Explorers had runners at first and second and one out and Chris Grossman hit a liner that Brown made a diving catch on, got up and threw out Jason Tuttle at second for the double play.
The Saints pounded out 17 hits on the night and Sullivan was 3-6 with two runs scored while Colson was 3-7 with a double and three RBI.
The Saints and Explorers meet in the final game of the three game series on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. from Lewis and Clark Park. The Saints send RHP Charlie Ruud (1-0, 0.00) to the hill against Explorers LHP Paul Fagan (0-0, 17.18).
