Charleston Lowgators News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (January 3) â The North Charleston Lowgators defeated the Mobile Revelers for the second time in three nights 89-81 on Friday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. Corey Benjamin had 27 points to pace the home team again.
With the Lowgators up 61-60 after 30 minutes of basketball, North Charleston went on a 6-0 run to open up the final quarter and never looked back. Larry Reid and Sedric Webber had 8 points each in the fourth period, but it was an amazing right-handed slam dunk by Corey Benjamin over Ernest Brown that ignited the Lowgators down the stretch.
"That was amazing. He used some extra athleticism on that one, Lowgators coach Doug Marty said. "If Corey continues to play this well he won't be here next month. He'll be in the NBA."
It was the second straight night that Benjamin went off for 27 points against Mobile. He added 4 assists and was 8 of 15 from the floor.
The two teams battled for three quarters, as each team's largest lead was no greater than 6. In the fourth period, Mobile fell behind by as many as 12 and got no closer than 6.
Shea Seals had 19 points off the bench for the Revelers (8-11) and Rafer Alston added 11 points and 10 assists. Sedric Webber chipped in with 18 for the Lowgators (11-9) and Peter Cornell ripped down a season-high 17 rebounds.
The three game series concludes tomorrow night as it shifts to Mobile.
