Charleston Lowgators News Release
CHARLESTON, S.C. (March 27) The Charleston Lowgators jumped back into first place on Saturday night with a 105-94 victory over the Asheville Altitude at the North Charleston Coliseum. The victory pushed the Lowgators on top of the NBDL standings, a half-game in front of the Altitude. Charleston lost in Asheville on Friday night by 30 points.
Down 46-43 at halftime, the Lowgators (24-18) stormed ahead in the third quarter outscoring Asheville 27-19 in the period and would not trail again. Charleston led by as many as 13 in the second half and shot 61% from the field after intermission. The Altitude (23-18) did make a run that began at the end of the quarter thanks to a three-point buzzer-beater by Lavor Postell. They tied the game at 71 early in the fourth frame, however, the Lowgators went on an 8-0 run to extinguish the Asheville comeback attempt.
"The first half was a seesaw battle and it really mirrored Friday's game so we were really focused at halftime. I thought we stayed aggressive in the third quarter and played well defensively," Lowgators coach Doug Marty said. "It was also good to see our bench step up with Jason Miskiri and Alpha (Bangura). They played a big part in the second half."
Miskiri and Ime Udoka paced the Lowgators with 20 points and Alpha Bangura added 18. Hiram Fuller turned in a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds while blocking three shots.
The Altitude's bench was also impressive, as Brandon Kurtz led the way with 22 points and Antonio Meeking added 16. Desmond Penigar, the NBDL's leading scorer, was limited to four points in 21 minutes. He injured an ankle in the second quarter landing awkwardly but was able to return.
The Lowgators win snapped a four-game losing streak against the Altitude.
Both teams will play next Saturday. Charleston will travel to Fayetteville at 7:30 p.m. and Asheville will host Huntsville at 7:15 p.m.
