Charleston Lowgators News Release
CHARLESTON, S.C. (April 9) The Charleston Lowgators assured themselves a home game in the NBDL Delta Air Lines Postseason Classic with a 91-88 victory over the Huntsville Flight on Friday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. Ime Udoka had a game-high 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the home team.
Huntsville missed two would-be game-tying three pointers with under 20 seconds remaining in the contest as their heroic comeback fell short. Leading by as many as 22, Charleston (26-19) watched their advantage dwindle in the final period as they were outscored 28-13. Flight (23-22) guard Erick Barkley spearheaded the Huntsville comeback with 14 points in the final frame.
"We did not play as well in the fourth quarter and they did a nice job coming back," Lowgators coach Doug Marty said. "In the first three quarters we were aggressive offensively and defensively, but we are still having a hard time finding consistency throughout an entire game. Hopefully, it will come during the postseason."
Tierre Brown added 19 points and 11 assists for the Lowgators, who took the lead midway through the first quarter and did not trail again.
Barkley finished with 24 points off the bench for the Flight and Rodney Bias chipped in with 11 points and 15 rebounds, nine of them offensive.
The Lowgators, currently a second seed, will play at Roanoke on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. If they win and Asheville loses at home against Fayetteville, Charleston would be the NBDL regular season champion. The top two seeds will host the first round of the NBDL Delta Air Lines Postseason Classic, thus, the Lowgators will play at home on Saturday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m.
Huntsville is locked into third place in the NBDL standings and will be on the road next weekend for their first postseason game.
