Columbus Riverdragons News Release
COLUMBUS, Ga.âRusty LaRue tallied a game-high 26 points, including 19 in the second half as the Asheville Altitude moved closer to securing the NBDL regular season title and the top seed in the 2004 NBDL-Delta Airlines Postseason Classic with a 109-100 victory over the Columbus Riverdragons on Friday night at the Columbus Civic Center.
With the win, Asheville (27-18) has now won three in a row, fifteen of its last sixteen, and twenty of its last twenty-six overall to claim the best record in the NBDL. The loss was the second straight for Columbus (18-27) and the Dragons fifth in nine meetings head-to-head with the Altitude this season. The Altitude maintain their one-game lead over Charleston (26-19) for the league's best record, as the Lowgators defeated Huntsville 91-88 at the North Charleston Coliseum on Friday. In order to win the NBDL regular season title outright and lock up the number one seed in the NBDL-Delta Airlines Postseason Classic, Asheville must win tomorrow night over in-state rival Fayetteville at the Asheville Civic Center.
Six players scored in double figures for the Altitude. Along with LaRue's game-high, Desmond Penigar contributed 23 points and seven rebounds, while Kareem Reid came off the bench to tally a double-double with 14 points and 12 assists. Antonio Meeking and Brandon Kurtz both notched twelve points and Kris Lang posted 11 points.
Columbus was led by five players in double figures, including a team-high 22 points from Sedric Webber, who totaled 20 in the second half alone. Derrick Zimmerman continued his strong play with 15 points, eight assists, and five rebounds. Kevin Lyde and Reed Rawlings had 13 points apiece, while Terence Morris posted ten points off the bench.
The Riverdragons finish their regular season schedule tomorrow night, April 10, against the Huntsville Flight at the Columbus Civic Center. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m. EDT. The Altitude return home to take on Fayetteville for a 7:15 tip-off at the Asheville Civic Center. For more information log onto nbdl.com.
