Lowell's Krahn named Koho AHL Goaltender of the Month

Published on December 1, 2004 under American Hockey League (AHL) News Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Brent Krahn of the Lowell Lock Monsters has been named the Koho AHL Goaltender of the Month for November. In six starts last month, Krahn was 5-1-0 with a 1.65 goals-against average, a .944 save percentage and three shutouts.

After Lowell went the entire 2003-04 season without recording a shutout, Krahn posted three in a 10-day span to finish November. He made 34 saves in a 5-0 win over Portland on Nov. 21, and followed that effort up with a 27-save performance in a 4-0 win at Worcester on Nov. 26, snapping the Lock Monsters' 10-game road winless streak (dating to last season). Krahn suffered his only loss of the month on Nov. 28, making 36 saves and nearly upsetting league-leading Manchester, then stopped 29 shots on Nov. 30 in another 4-0 win over Worcester, tying a franchise record with his third shutout of the season.

In recognition of his achievement, Krahn will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Lock Monsters home game.

A native of Winnipeg, Man., the 22-year-old Krahn is in his second professional season in 2004-05 after being selected ninth overall (by Calgary) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He has a record of 6-3-0 in nine games for Lowell this season, with a 2.33 GAA and .923 save percentage. Krahn appeared in 21 AHL games last year between Lowell and San Antonio, posting a mark of 5-10-1.

Other nominees for Koho AHL Goaltender of the Month include Billy Thompson of Binghamton, Wade Dubielewicz of Bridgeport, Kari Lehtonen of Chicago, Nolan Schaefer of Cleveland, Tyler Moss of Edmonton, Joey MacDonald of Grand Rapids, Josh Harding of Houston, Mathieu Garon of Manchester, Craig Anderson of Norfolk, Antero Niittymaki of Philadelphia, Hannu Toivonen of Providence, Travis Scott of San Antonio, Brian Eklund of Springfield and Mikael Tellqvist of St. John's.
