Moncton, NB - It's not The Price is Right but you had better "come on down" if you want a ticket and a chance to shoot for a prize at the Rivalry Cup on March 10th at the Moncton Coliseum. The prize package grew again on Friday, with word Lounsbury Chevrolet added a GM vehicle as a prize for the second intermission shoot out. In addition the cash prize has been increased to $150,000.
"The news gets better by the day for our fans who want to prove they're the best in the province," says GM Bill Schurman. "We feel we have the best fan support in New Brunswick. The prize pot is our way of saying thank you for their support."
The idea began when Saint John challenged Moncton to determine who has the most dedicated hockey fans in the province. A trophy named the Rivalry Cup was offered by The Times&Transcript and will go to the city drawing the highest percentage of fans. Saint John attracted 5,585 fans to the game on February 8th at Harbour Station. In order to win the trophy, the Wildcats need to put 5,789 fans in the Coliseum seats. The Moncton fan support has now grown to just under 5,000.
"We getting closer with less than a thousand tickets left to sell but there's still work to be done to claim the Cup," said Schurman. "We'd like to fill the Coliseum and hammer home the message to Saint John. We now have two vehicles, thanks to Taylor Ford and Lounsbury Chevrolet, plus furniture to the value of $25,000 from Lounsbury's and that huge cash jackpot now at $150,000. That kind of support might even draw Bob Barker out of retirement," Schurman added with a wry grin.
The shoot out plan calls for an elimination shooting in the first intermission, setting up the drama for the big prize shots in the second intermission.
