Louisville Bats News Release

SUNDAY'S FINALE: The Louisville Bats and Charlotte Knights play the series finale this afternoon at BB&T Ballpark. The season series is on the line, with each teams winning 3 games in the matchup thus far. LOU looks for a split in the current 4-game series, with Charlotte taking 2 of the first 3 games. Right-hander Tyler Mahle will get the ball for Louisville, making his third minor league start this season after being optioned by Cincinnati earlier in the month.

AGAINST CHARLOTTE: The Bats and Knights meet for the last time in 2018 tonight, the final out-of-division series for Louisville this season. In their previous series back in late April, the Bats won 2 of 3 games, outscoring the top farm club of the Chicago White Sox by a narrow 10-7 advantage. Three of the last 4 matchups have now gone into extra innings, with LOU winning 2 of those 3 extra inning games.

EXTRA EXTRAS: For the second straight game, Louisville and Charlotte played a 10-inning contest. Last night, the Knights were victorious, winning 7-6 in 10 innings after an hour, 11-minute rain delay prior to the game. It's the first time the Bats have played back-to-back extra inning games since May 2-3 this season vs. Columbus and at Norfolk, dropping both games in 10 innings. Overall this season, LOU is 7-6 in extra innings and 4-2 in road extra inning games.

100 HOME RUNS: Shortstop Blake Trahan 's game-tying home run in the fifth inning of last night's ballgame was Louisville's 100th home run as a club this season, ranking sixth in the International League. It's the first time Louisville has hit 100+ homers in a single season since it hit 116 homers as a club in 2012.

500 RUNS: The Bats scored their 500th run as a team this season in last night's ballgame, when Taylor Sparks ' RBI single scored Gabriel Guerrero as part of a four-run inning for the offense. Last season, the Bats scored their 500th run of the season on August 25 at Toledo when Jose Duarte 's RBI single scored Zach Vincej in the third inning in a 3-1 Bats win.

MISSED IT BY THAT MUCH: Louisville made a tremendous comeback effort in last night's ballgame, trailing 6-1 heading into the eighth inning before scoring 4 runs in the eighth to make it a one-run game, and ultimately tying it up 6-6 in the ninth. Catcher Tim Federowicz hit the game-tying homer in the ninth inning, down to his last strike with 2 outs. It's the second time this season that LOU trailed by 5+ runs and came back to tie it, also occurring on August 5 at Columbus, when LOU trailed 8-3, tied it 8-8, before ultimately losing 9-8. The Bats' largest comeback win this season still remains 3 runs, occurring twice and most recently on August 8 vs. Pawtucket.

BLAKE IT UP: Blake Trahan had his best offensive night of the season, going 4-for-5 with a home run, 2 RBI and stolen base. It was the fifth four-hit game for a Bats player this season, and the first since Brandon Dixon 's on July 17 at Rochester. For Trahan, it was his first 4-hit game since August 25, 2016 with Class-A Advanced Daytona. It was his first game with a home run and stolen base since May 22, 2017 with Class AA Pensacola.
