Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

OGDEN, UT --- Following up a series win against the Grand Junction Rockies, the Idaho Falls Chukars started up the second leg of a six-game road trip with a 5-1 loss against the Ogden Raptors at Lindquist Field on Wednesday night.

Four pitchers combined to give up a run and five hits to the top ranked offense in the Pioneer League, led by a dazzling performance from lefty Jairo Pacheco. In his fourth start this season against Idaho Falls, Pacheco shutout the Chukars bats through six innings, giving up just four hits while striking out six to improve to 6-3 on the year.

To ensure the victory for Pacheco, three Raptors relievers combined to give up just one hit through the final three innings of work. The only run the Chukars could manage was a solo homer from catcher Kyle Pollock in the ninth inning off of righty Marcus Crestintini. It was the fourth homer of the year for Pollock.

Offensively, Ogden scored their first two runs of the game in the third inning on a two-run homer from infielder Fautino Oguisten off of Chukars starter Carter Hope (L, 0-3). Ogden scored their final three runs in the sixth inning on RBI doubles from Oguisten and outfielder Alex Santana as well as a sacrifice fly by shortstop Kelvin Ramos.

For the Chukars, outfielder Amalani Fukofuka lead the way with two hits.

With a walk in the eighth inning, second basemen DJ Burt increased his streak of consecutive games on-base to 43 games. It is the longest active streak in all of professional baseball and is the fourth longest overall this season. St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Matt Holiday has the longest streak at 47 games.

On the pitching side, the Chukars got two scoreless frames from RHP Josh Staumont. The Royals second round draft pick struck out five batters, giving him 27 strikeouts in his last 12.1 innings pitched (five appearances).

With the loss, the Chukars lead in the Pioneer League South division dropped to two games.

The Chukars will wrap their six-game roadtrip with the finale of a two-game series against Ogden on Thursday. Idaho Falls will send RHP Derek Gordon to the bump while the Raptors will counter with a pitcher that is to be determined. First pitch is at 6:30 PM.
