Asheville Tourists News Release
ROME - The Asheville Tourists are in the midst of playing some of their worst baseball of the season. After dropping a mistake-riddled contest 11-3 on Tuesday night, the Tourists followed it up with a 9-1 loss to the Rome Braves on Wednesday afternoon.
Rome built a 5-0 lead over the first two innings. Drew Lugbauer's solo Home Run in the fifth made it 6-0. The Tourists plated their only run of the game in the seventh on a Matt McLaughlin triple followed by a Ryan Vilade single. The Braves added three runs late in a six-hit eighth inning.
McLaughlin finished the game with three hits while Vilade chipped in a pair. Erick Julio tossed two perfect innings out of the Tourists bullpen.
Rome's Huascar Ynoa pitched six shutout innings and recorded a season-high nine strikeouts. Ynoa is the second straight Braves starting pitcher to rack up a season high in strikeouts against the Tourists. Drew Harrington bested his previous high of three with seven punchouts last night.
The Tourists have been outscored 20-4 and outhit 36-16 over the first two games of this series. The two teams waited out a 1:45 minute rain delay before the Braves went to work. Asheville has lost six of their last seven games against Rome and will attempt to avoid being swept in Thursday night's series finale.
