Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Greenville, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, split their doubleheader with the Greenville Drive on Wednesday.
The first game was a continuation of the previously suspended May 20th meeting with the Drive. With the game starting in the bottom of the second inning at 1-1, the GreenJackets got down early. The Drive took over taking a 6-1 lead by the fifth inning.
Then the comeback began, when Orlando Garcia knocked in Manuel Geraldo from third base to give the GreenJackets another run. Then with Ryan Kirby on at second, Rob Calabrese hit his fourth home run of the season to cut the Drive lead to 6-4.
That score would hold until the top of the ninth, when Heliot Ramos hit a two-run home run to tie the game at six. Later with the bases loaded, Ryan Kirby hit a single to right field that scored Shane Matheny and Jacob Gonzalez to give the GreenJackets an 8-6 lead. After Garcia once again knocked in Geraldo from third base, the GreenJackets took a 9-6 lead. They put up a total of five runs in top of the ninth.
John Russell would come on to close out the game and earn his fifth win of the season. The GreenJackets won game one, 9-6.
In game two, first baseman John Riley led the way for the GreenJackets. In the first inning with two out, Riley singled to center field to score Manuel Geraldo. This dug into the two run lead the Drive had taken in the first inning. In his next at bat in the fourth inning, Riley hit a three-run home run to center field to give the GreenJackets a 4-2 lead.
Following the home run, the Drive would score a run in the fourth and fifth inning to tie up the ballgame. Then in the bottom of the seventh, Marino Campana hit a walk-off home run to end the night. The GreenJackets dropped game two 5-4.
