Lopez Shuts out Gateway for Series Opening Win

SAUGET, IL- The Traverse City Beach Bums(29-28) got a monster performance from starter Reinaldo Lopez, and earned a 6-0 win over the Gateway Grizzlies(25-35) to open up this weekend's three game series.

After two scoreless innings to start off the game, Ryan Kemp led off the third by reaching on a walk. Isaac Benard followed by cranking a two-run opposite field home run, his fifth long ball of the season, giving the Bums a 2-0 lead. Benard picked up his second hit of the night as he singled to center. Will Kengor followed with his own single, moving Benard to third, then, two batters later, Kendall Patrick drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, bringing the lead to 3-0.

In the eighth inning, Noah McGowan led off with a single to right. He then moved to second on a passed ball and to third on a wild pitch. Two batters later, Alec Olund drove him home with a sacrifice fly. Lohr, with one out in the ninth, doubled down the right field line. Patrick moved him to third on a single then Benard scored on a wild pitch that moved Patrick to third. After a pitching change, Alexis Rivera drove in Patrick with a sacrifice fly, closing the scoring.

Reinaldo Lopez hurled his league-leading third complete game shutout of the season, in his way to a win and a 6-3 record. He allowed five hits and walk while striking out four, in a 100 pitch effort. Suffering the loss was Max MacNabb as he went seven innings, giving up three runs on nine hits on three walks to fall to 6-6 on the season.

Saturday night, the Beach Bums and Gateway Grizzlies continue this weekend's three game set with game two. Getting the call for Gateway is Alec Kisena and Jordan Desguin starts for the Beach Bums.
