Loons' Roster Gets Younger

BELOIT, WI - The Great Lakes Loons today, in conjunction with the Los Angeles Dodgers, announced the addition of 18-year old right-handed relief pitcher Luis Ferreras to the Loons' active roster. Ferreras replaces right-handed pitcher Daigoro Rondon, who has been placed on the Ogden roster.

Ferreras is the youngest player on the Loons' roster. He will turn 19 on December 28.

This season with the Gulf Coast League Dodgers, Ferreras went 0-1 with a 0.75 ERA (one earned run, 12 innings) and two saves in seven relief appearances. Ferreras also appeared in two games with Double-A Jacksonville, where he did not allow a run in two appearances (three innings).

He dominated the Dominican Summer League last year. In 23 relief appearances, he went 2-0 with a 0.99 ERA and 12 saves. He fanned a batter per inning (27 strikeouts in 27 1/3 innings) and limited opponents to a .183 average against.

The right-hander from Guayacanal, Dominican Republic combined with former Loons' pitcher Geison Aguasviva on a no-hitter June 29 in the DSL.

The Loons continue their six-game series with their second game against the Beloit Snappers tonight at Pohlman Field. Game time is 8:00pm ET. The game will be carried on the radio flagship home of Great Lakes Loons baseball, ESPN 100.9-FM.
