Lansing Lugnuts News Release

Grand Chute, Wisc. - The Lansing Lugnuts snapped their longest skid of the year at five games by defeating the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 4-2 at Fox Cities Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

The Rattlers jumped ahead of Lansing in the second inning with a two out rally. Juan Diaz reached on an infield single and Blake Ochoa drew a walk to put two men on. Maximo Mendez followed them up by lining a triple into right field that scored both runners, putting Wisconsin up 2-0.

Lansing quickly tied the game by scoring two runs in the third on Raul Barron's two-run single into right-center field that plated both Moises Sierra and Justin Jackson.

The Lugnuts took the lead in the sixth as Yohermyn Chavez lined a soft two-out single into right field that brought David Cooper home from second base, making it a 3-2 game.

Lansing added an insurance run in the next inning when Justin Jackson doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch, and later scored on Barron's single into center past a drawn in infield.

Barron finished the game 4-for-5 with three RBI. He is 7-for-10 through two games in the series.

Chi-Hung Cheng (5-5) notched the win for the Lugnuts by throwing five innings and allowing both Rattler runs on six hits.

Lansing's bullpen was excellent after that, as Joe Wice and Tim Collins each threw two innings to hold Wisconsin scoreless. Collins hurled the final two frames of the game, picking up his ninth save of the season.

Natividad Dilone (1-2) took the loss in relief for Wisconsin after giving up the go-ahead run in the sixth inning.

Lansing (60-49, 21-18) and Wisconsin (42-63, 11-28) will play the rubber game of the series Thursday night at 8:05 p.m. Lansing will be attempting to win their first decisive game against a Western Division opponent this season, as the Lugnuts are 0-7 in rubber games.
