Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
THE LAST GAME: The Carolina Mudcats swept yesterday's double-header, winning game one 3-1 and then taking game two,
3-2. Game one was a continuation of Saturday's suspended game. When the game resumed in the fourth inning, the Lookouts were trailing 2-1. Lookouts' starter Steve Kelly was credited with his second loss of the season, bringing his record to 4-2. For Carolina, Christopher Young got the win in relief, after tossing four innings and allowing no runs on three hits.

Chattanooga then took the lead in the sixth. The Mudcats however, won the game in the bottom of the seventh, as they scored two runs to complete the sweep of the double header. THIS DATE IN BASEBALL HISTORY:
1902 - William "Dummy" Hoy of Cincinnati went two for four against Luther "Dummy" Taylor. The Reds beat the New York Giants, 5-3. This was the first time in the major leagues when two players faced each other when both . . . were deaf mutes.
1924 - National League pitcher William "Candy" Cummings died at 75. He was credited with inventing the curve ball in 1864. It was a more difficult task than that faced by current pitchers. Cummings played when hurlers delivered the ball . . . underhanded. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1938.
1984 - Minnesota sold 51,863 tickets to a game. The Twins lost to the Toronto Blue Jays, 8-7 . . . before 6,346 fans. Harvey Mackay, a Minneapolis businessman, spent nearly $219,000 to buy 44,166 tickets. The club would have been able to break its Metrodome lease if they failed to sell 2.41 million tickets. Mackay was trying to keep the team in town. The season's attendance was just under 1.6 million. The Twins stayed in Minnesota anyway.
