Mateo, relievers lead Jaxx to 2-1 victory

Montgomery, AL (May 15th)- The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx got great pitching from Juan Mateo and three relievers as they combined to allow just three hits in a 2-1 Diamond Jaxx victory on Monday night at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery. The win pulls the Diamond Jaxx to within a game of the Chattanooga Lookouts in the Northern Division.

Mateo (2-2) went the first six innings, allowing a run on just two hits. He walked one and struck out three. The lone run scored on a Gabriel Martinez homer in the second inning. Carmen Pignatiello, Thomas Atlee and Clay Rapada combined to blank the Biscuits on just one hit over the final three innings. Rapada pitched the ninth inning to earn his eleventh save of the season.

The Diamond Jaxx got single runs in the fourth and sixth inning off losing pitcher Chris Flinn (1-3) to take a 2-1 lead. Micah Hoffpauir tied the game at one in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly. Luis Montanez drove in the eventual winning run with a RBI single in the sixth inning.

The final game of the ten game road-trip takes place on Tuesday night at 7:05 CDT. Right-hander Randy Wells (2-1 1.61) gets the start for the Diamond Jaxx. Montgomery will counter with lefty Mike Prochaska (1-0 5.40).
