Lookouts End Skid in Extras

For one night, the gloom and doom of the Chattanooga Lookouts' losing streak was able to be set aside. Outfiedler Jerome Moore, who has only been a member of the club since the end of July, hit a solo walkoff home with one out in the 13th ifnning Thursday night to give the Lookouts a 2-1 victory over the Huntsville Stars.

The Lookouts managed all of one hit over the first eight innings, but scraped together a lone run to avoid yet another shutout defeat before going on to end its 12-game losing streak.

The seres continues tonight at 7:15 p.m.

The gloom and doom that hung over the team in recent days continued almost to the last moment. Rafael Ynoa, hitting aeahd of Morgan in the Chattanooga lineup, reached on a throwing error immediately ahead of the game-winning hit, but had been thrown out at second trying to get an extra base in the deal.

Morgan, incidentally, was htting .179 at the time of the big hit.

Held hitless for five innings by Stars starter Drew Gagnon, the Lookouts broke the ice in the tight struggle with a leadoff single by Matt Wallach in the sixth. But the home crowd barely had time to get excited when pinch-hitter J.T. Wise wiped him out on a double play grounder.

The Stars put the game's first run up in the sixth against Lookouts' starter Carlos Frias. Jason Rogers led off the inning with a single and Brock Kjeldgaard was hit by a pitch, ending Frias' night. Onelki Garcia came on to get a ground ball double play, but Rogers moved to third. He then scored on Anderson De La Rosa's two-out single.

In their seventh, the Lookouts managed a pair of walks, but Miguel Rojas struck out with two on. The Lookouts ninth began with Jeremy Moore being hit by a pitch from newly inserted Kevin Shackleford. With Brian Cavazos-Galvez up, Shackleford threw a wild pitch to put Moore at second and Cavazos-Galvez rolled a perfectly placed ground ball single to right to tie the game.

Veteran Sean Burroughsacrificed Cavazos-Galvez to second, but a baserunning blunder had BCG thrown out at third on Jon Garcia's ground ball to short. The Lookouts put two men on again in the 10th no avail.

The win went to Duke Von Schamann (3-4), who worked two hitless innings in starter Frias. Arcenio Leon (1-7) suffered the defeat despite being one of six Huntsville pitchers who held the Lookouts to five hits.
