Birmingham Barons News Release

Birmingham, AL - In a classic pitchers duel, the Mobile BayBears snuck past the Birmingham Barons by a score of 3-2 Friday night in front of 3,179 fans at Hank Aaron Stadium.

The Barons would jump out to an early 1-0 lead against top Minor League prospect Archie Bradley (8-5, 2.10) on a solo home run by Mike Blanke in the second inning. The home run was Blanke's seventh of the season.

In his Double A debut, Chris Beck (0-1, 4.50) cruised through the first 4.0 innings before running into trouble in the fifth. The BayBears would load the bases and take a 2-1 lead on a two-run single by Keon Broxton. Beck finished with three runs allowed on seven hits while striking out five in 6.0 IP on the night.

The Barons would cut the BayBears lead to 3-2 in the seventh on an RBI single by Dan Wagner but were unable to mount a final rally over the final 2.0 IP. Bradley picked up his eighth win of the season allowing two runs on five hits over 7.0 IP while striking out 10.

With the loss, the Barons fell to 69-48 and 25-22 in the second half while Mobile improved to 63-51 and 24-21 in the second half.

Blanke and Dan Wagner finished with two hits apiece and four of the Barons' six hits on the night with Blanke going 2-for-4 with the homer and a double.

The Barons will look to avoid a series loss tomorrow night as LHP Spencer Arroyo (8-4, 3.16) takes the hill against LHP Andrew Chaffin (8-6, 2.77). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
