Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Despite playing catch up for the vast majority of the contest, the Lookouts broke through with a four-run eighth inning to come away victors in a 6-5 finish against the Birmingham Barons in Wednesday night action at AT&T Field.

The Barons wasted very little time taking the lead, as Miguel Negron led off the game by hitting a Mario Alvarez offering over the right-center field wall.

A one-out Tyler Kuhn triple in the second set up an RBI ground out for Dale Mollenhauer to extend the Barons' lead to 2-0.

Chattanooga evened up the score in the fourth with two runs of their own. Back-to-back singles from Eddy Perez and Kyle Russell began the rally. After a Scott Van Slyke sacrifice bunt, which advanced both runners, Mike Rivera grounded out, plating Perez and moving Russell to third. Jaime Pedroza followed with a single up the middle to easily score Russell.

A Jim Gallagher solo shot in the sixth inning returned the lead to the Barons.

Birmingham tacked on another run in the eighth inning on a Christian Marrero RBI single.

Despite being down 4-2, the Lookouts did not go away. Dee Gordon led off the bottom of the eighth with a walk and swiped second base. After a Trayvon Robinson walk, Corey Smith singled off of Miguel Socolovich (4-5) to drive home Gordon, but an aggressive Robinson was thrown out at third on the play. Eddy Perez followed with a double to put runners on second and third. After a Kyle Russell intentional walk, Scott Van Slyke hit a sacrifice fly to tie up the score. With runners on the corners, Mike Rivera played hero by belting a two-RBI double to give the Lookouts a 6-4 lead.

Kenley Jansen was able to shut the door on the Barons in the ninth, despite giving up a Fernando Cortez RBI single, earning his fourth save of the season.

Justin Miller (1-0), making his Lookouts debut, was credited with the win by pitching 1.2 in relief. He surrendered one run on three hits, while striking out one.

The Chattanooga Lookouts and Birmingham Barons will continue their six-game series at 7:15 P.M., tomorrow.
