
Long Island Nets Fall to Fort Wayne in Tightly-Contested Affair

LONG ISLAND - The Long Island Nets (7-16), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, fell to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (11-14) 100-92 tonight at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Two-way guard Chris Chiozza continued his strong play since joining the Nets, finishing the contest with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field with four rebounds, four assists and four steals in 31 minutes of action. Brooklyn Nets forward/center Nicolas Claxton finished the contest with 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field to go along with three rebounds, an assist and a block in just 13 minutes of play while on assignment with Long Island.
Fort Wayne guard Walt Lemon Jr. led the way for the Mad Ants, finishing the contest with a game high 25 points to go with six rebounds, eight assists and four steals in 39 minutes of play. Fort Wayne forward Ben Moore also had a strong night for the Mad Ants, recording a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds with three assists and two steals in 34 minutes of action.
The two teams went back and forth to open the contest and were tied 20-20 with 5:01 left to play in the first. Fort Wayne was able to pull ahead to make it 30-23 before a late run by the Nets brought Long Island to within a point, heading into the second quarter trailing 32-31.
Long Island came out strong to start the second quarter, outscoring the Mad Ants 11-4 over the opening 3:30 of play. Fort Wayne was able to answer back over the remainder of the quarter, taking a 56-54 lead into the half
Long Island came out hot to start the third quarter, outscoring the Mad Ants 13-6 over the opening 7:42 of action. The Nets would continue their strong play over the remainder of the third, taking a narrow 74-72 lead into the final quarter of play.
Both teams came out trading blows to start the fourth, with Fort Wayne tying it up at 82-82 with 7:59 remaining in the game. Fort Wayne would follow that with a 10-0 run that Long Island was unable to overcome as the Nets fell to the Mad Ants by the final score 100-92.
The Nets play their next game against the Maine Red Claws on Friday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. ET at NYCB LIVE, while the Mad Ants will return home to take on the Greensboro Swarm next on Friday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. ET.
