Lancaster Stormers News Release
Intensifying rains forced the postponement of Thursday evening's scheduled game between the Long Island Ducks and Lancaster Barnstormers at Clipper Magazine Stadium with Long Island leading, 2-0, after 3 1/2 innings.
The game had been held up for over one hour due to late afternoon rains before Ben Fritz finally took the mound in the top of the first for Lancaster. Long Island struck for a run in the second on a two-our RBI single to left by Javier Colina. Willis Otanez cranked a homer onto the hillside in left to start the fourth. With rains growing steadier through the half inning, the Ducks proceeded to load the bases before Pat Overholt coaxed a grounder to second out of Joey Gathright to end the threat.
As the Ducks took the field for the bottom of the fourth, rain started coming in sheets, prompting crew chief Dan Wilson to call for the covering. Play never resumed.
The two clubs will make up the game as part of a doubleheader on Friday at 5:00. Ross Peeples (4-0) will start one of the games for Lancaster. Randy Leek (11-9) will pitch one of the two for Long Island.
Tickets from Thursday night will be honored at any of the three remaining dates on the weekend schedule.
