LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach captain Chris Kenady registered a hat trick as the Ice Dogs rolled to a 5-2 victory over the Anchorage Aces in front of 2,347 Friday night at Long Beach Arena.

A scoreless first period marked the first time all year the Aces had not surrendered a goal in the opening 20 minutes and only the second time they headed into intermission on even terms. Long Beach took full advantage of a four-minute hooking penalty assessed against Anchorage defenseman Ruslan Batyrshin early in the second. Chris Kenady scored at 2:49 and Tomas Kapusta banged home a Kenady rebound two minutes later just as Batyrshin stepped back onto the ice. Trailing 2-0, the Aces converted a power play of their own when Yvan Corbin beat Long Beach goaltender Mike Buzak with a wrist shot from between the circles with 7:45 left in the middle frame.

Kenady scored twice more in the final period, the second of which coming on a one-timer after a perfect centering pass from Tomas Hradecky to extend the Ice Dogs' lead to 4-1 with 8:24 remaining. Anchorage finally converted on its fifth power play of the third period as Carl Drakensjo redirected a shot from the point by Ryan Moren past Buzak at 17:45. Head Coach Rod Davidson pulled Aces' netminder Christian Soucy (34 saves) with two minutes remaining, and Anchorage had several point-blank chances but failed to draw closer. Hradecky's empty-netter with 12.8 seconds to go sealed Long Beach's third consecutive victory and sent Anchorage to its sixth consecutive defeat.

With their record now at 1-8, the Aces will try to salvage the final game of this series against the Ice Dogs (3-2) tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. AST. All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.anchorageaces.com or www.kfqd.com with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
