Johnstown Chiefs News Release


Tonight the Johnstown Chiefs (4-5-0) and the Dayton Bombers (2-6-1) meet for the third time this season. The Chiefs dropped their second game in a row last night, as they fell on the road 5-2 to the Toledo Storm. Pierre-Luc Courchesne and Lukas Smital scored the Johnstown goals. Dany Dallaire made 28 saves in the defeat. The Bombers fell in overtime 3-2 last night at home against the Peoria Rivermen. Chris M. Thompson and Tom Nemeth scored the Dayton goals. Andrew Allen made 28 saves for the Bombers.

Johnstown/Dayton Season Series:

This is the third of nine meetings this season between the two teams. The Chiefs are 2-0-0 against the Bombers this year with both wins coming at Dayton. The Chiefs have outscored the Bombers 11-3 thus far this season. The Chiefs are 34-41-7 all-time against Dayton

Goaltender Peter Aubry was loaned to the Saint John Flames (AHL) yesterday, while the Flames re-assigned defenseman Jay Langager to the Chiefs. Langager, won the Kelly Cup last season as a member of the Greenville Grrrowl. He had 5 shots and 5 PIM in the Chiefs 5-2 loss at Toledo last night.....................The Chiefs are 2-3-0 in their last five games..................The Chiefs have scored two shorthanded goals against the Bombers this season.......................Jason Spence is 5th in the ECHL with 53 PIM, and second in the league with 7 major penalties...................The Chiefs dropped below .500 for the first time since 1/18/02.....................When the Chiefs allow three or more goals in a game they are 1-5-0 this season.

Bombers Notes:

Dayton is the defending Northern Conference champions.....................Former Chief Mike Vellinga has a goal and 4 assists in 9 games for the Bombers.........................This is just the Bombers third road game. They are 0-2-0 on the road this season..........................Mike Renzi leads the ECHL with 65 PIM, and 15 minor penalties...................Trevor Ettinger leads the ECHL with 8 major penalties....................Goaltender Shane Bendera leads the ECHL with a 0.97 GAA and a 0.964 save percentage in five regular season games.....................The Bombers are 1-3-1 in their last five games...................Dayton plays at Wheeling tomorrow night.
