Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Hartford, Conn - Kyle Datres hit Hartford's second grand slam of 2022 and drove in five runs total as the Yard Goats topped the Fightin Phils, 9-4, before a sellout crowd at Dunkin' Donuts Park on Friday night. Willie MacIver and Ezequiel Tovar also went deep to help Hartford even its six-game series with Reading at two. The win keeps Hartford within 1.5 games of the Eastern League-leading Somerset Patriots.
The Yard Goats cashed in early against Fightin Phils' starter Noah Skirrow. Michael Toglia reached on an infield single in the second. Then, facing a full count and two outs, Kyle Datres crushed a double off the centerfield fence to bring home Toglia with the game's first run. Isaac Collins walked and induced a throw from Reading's catcher that trickled into right field and allowed Datres to score. Hunter Stovall singled the next pitch to center to drive in Collins and put Hartford ahead 3-0.
In the third, Jimmy Herron led off with an 101-MPH single off the leg of Skirrow, knocking Reading's starter out of the game. Brenton Doyle and Toglia both walked, and with one out, Datres belted a 2-0 fastball over the visitor's bullpen in left. The five RBIs were the most Datres has ever driven home in a minor league game.
Hartford starter Noah Davis got his fastball up to 97 MPH while setting down nine of the first 10 batters he faced. In the fourth, Logan O'Hoppe singled home Ali Castillo for the Fightin Phils' first run of the game. Josh Ockimey followed with a three-run homer to right to cut Hartford's lead to 7-4. Davis settled in to retire nine of the next 10 Reading batters and secured his third win in his last four starts.
Tovar tacked on a run in the fourth inning with his 11th home run of the year, tying him for fourth-most in the Eastern League. MacIver mashed a solo shot to left in the fifth, giving him nine on the year and Hartford a 9-4 lead. Will Gaddis and Trent Fennell combined for three hitless innings of relief to end it.
The Yard Goats (30-19) and Fightin Phils (21-28) play Saturday, June 4 (6:05 ET) at Dunkin' Donuts Park. RHP Karl Kauffmann starts for Hartford, and LHP Ethan Lindow will start for Reading. The game will be broadcast on Newsradio 1410 WPOP.
