Loman Leads M-Braves to 8-3 Victory over Smokies

PEARL, MS -- Seth Loman blasted a game-tying home run in the sixth and drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh to lead the Mississippi Braves to an 8-3 victory over the Tennessee Smokies Saturday afternoon at Trustmark Park. The M-Braves have won four straight and continue the series Sunday at 5:00 PM.

Mississippi (23-19) scored eight runs on eight hits while Tennessee (23-19) plated three runs on seven hits. Loman went 2-for-4 at the plate, scoring two runs and driving in three. Matt Kennelly and Elmer Reyes each drove in two runs.

The M-Braves took a 1-0 lead in the sixth. Joe Leonard reached on a fielder's choice with two outs. Loman was hit by a pitch and Kennelly walked to load the bases. Reyes was then plunked in the head, allowing Leonard to score the game's first run.

John Andreoli walked to start the Smokies sixth. Charlie Cutler then blasted a two-run home run to put Tennessee out front 2-1. Kris Bryant and Dustin Geiger followed with singles before Jae-Hoon Ha delivered a RBI-single to extend the Smokies lead to 3-1.

The M-Braves responded in the bottom of the sixth. Joe Leonard walked and Loman launched a home run to center, tying the game at 3-3.

Dan Carroll reached on a two-out single and Joe Leonard walked to start the seventh. Loman followed with a RBI-double to left, giving the M-Braves a 4-3 lead. Kennelly then delivered a two-run double, and Reyes singled to center to drive in another run and make it a 7-3 game.

The Braves added another run in the eighth to make it 8-3. David Rohm and Eric Berger singled to put runners at the corners. Rohm then came in to score on a wild pitch.

Brandon Cunniff (1-0) worked an inning and two-thirds. He gave up one hit, a walk and struck out two batters to pick up his first win. P.J. Francescon (5-2) suffered the loss, giving up five earned runs on six hits and two walks. He struck out two.

Neither starter factored in the decision. David Bromberg went 5.1 innings for the M-Braves. He gave up three earned runs on six hits, a homer and two walks while striking out five batters. Matt Loosen gave up three earned runs on just two hits, a homer and four walks. He struck out five in six innings of work.

In game four of this five-game series, M-Braves right-hander J.R. Graham (0-2, 4.38) counters Smokies righty Dae-Eun Rhee (2-1, 3.43). First pitch is slated for 5:00 PM. Gates open at 4:00 PM.
