
BayBears Go for Seventh Straight Saturday

MOBILE, AL -- The Mobile BayBears (25-16) won their sixth straight game, topping the Chattanooga Lookouts (16-25) 4-3 Friday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. Mobile held a 3-0 lead into the top of the eighth inning with the Lookouts evened the score with three runs. In the bottom of the eighth, David Peralta put Mobile back out in front with a go-ahead RBI single. With the win, the BayBears remain three games above both the Montgomery Biscuits and Mississippi Braves for first place in the Southern League South Division Standings.
Three of the BayBears four runs came in the first inning. Tom Belza led off the game with a triple and scored when Gerson Montilla singled to left. Peralta followed with a base hit and Dustin Martin doubled, driving in Montilla and moving Peralta to third. The BayBears third run came when Daniel Bowman reached on a fielders choice and Peralta scored after the ball struck him in the back when the Lookouts tried to throw home from third.
The three-run lead for Mobile would hold over the next seven innings. RHP A.J. Schugel held the Lookouts scoreless, tossing 6.1 innings, allowing just seven hits, tallying one walk and striking out five. LHP Patrick Schuster entered the game in the top of the seventh inning with just one out and retired the last two batters.
In the top of the eighth inning, RHP Jimmie Sherfy entered the game for Mobile, the righty walked the first batter he faced, hit the second and then surrendered a two-run double to Chris O'Brien. With O'Brien on second base as the tying run, Sherfy fanned the next batter for the second out but Noel Cuevas singled to center, scoring O'Brien and tying the game up at three.
In the bottom of the eighth, Belza drew a one-out walk, advance to third on a single from Montilla then Peralta scored Belza for the go-ahead run with a RBI base hit, giving Mobile the 4-3 lead. RHP Jake Barrett entered the game in the top of the ninth and recorded the final three outs, earning his fifth save of the season.
The BayBears will look to extend their win streak to seven games Saturday. Mobile and Chattanooga continue their five game series with game three, Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Hank Aaron Stadium with first pitch at 6:05 PM CT.
