Frederick, MD - Close games are becoming a regular occurrence for the Winston-Salem Dash who defeated Frederick 4-3 on Friday night at Harry Grove Stadium. Winston-Salem has played a league-high 28 one-run games and is 18-10 in such contests. Left fielder Tyler Kuhn delivered an RBI sacrifice fly off Keys reliever Joe Esposito in the top of the ninth inning that scored pinch-runner Kent Gerst with the winning run.

Dash closer Henry Mabee put two runners on in the bottom of the ninth inning, but escaped the jam to collect his seventh save of the season. Miguel Socolovich (1-1) worked 1.1 innings of relief for Winston-Salem to garner the win.

The winning rally started when Loman led off the ninth inning with a double off Esposito. Gerst took over the base-running duties and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by center fielder Salvador Sanchez. Kuhn followed with the sacrifice fly that helped the Dash even this three-game series at a game apiece. Esposito (0-1), who was making his Carolina League debut, allowed the winning run and suffered the loss.

The Dash jumped in front in the top of the third inning when catcher Logan Johnson blasted a solo home run off Keys starting pitcher Sean Gleason that gave Winston-Salem a 1-0 lead. Designated hitter Seth Loman added a solo homer in the top of the fourth inning. It was his second home run in consecutive nights and put the Dash in front 2-0.

Frederick plated a run in the bottom of the fourth when Ryan Adams reached on a check-swing infield single. He stole second base and a wild throw by Johnson on the play moved Adams to third. One out later, Robbie Widlansky lined an RBI double off Dash starter Jacob Rasner to trim the Keys deficit to 2-1.

The Dash answered in the fifth inning when second baseman Dale Mollenhauer singled with one out and advanced to third on a double by shortstop Greg Paiml. First baseman Jimmy Gallagher followed with a run-scoring sacrifice fly to extend Winston-Salem's advantage to 3-1. Again, the Keys would get within a run in the sixth inning when Adams connected on an RBI double against Dash reliever Sergio Santos.

Sloppy defense by the Dash in the bottom of the seventh inning allowed Frederick to knot the score at three. Wally Crancer hit a ground ball back to the mound with one out. Winston-Salem reliever Wander Perez fielded the ball cleanly but threw wild to first which allowed Crancer to reach safely on the error. A passed ball and two wild pitches by Perez allowed pinch-runner Bobby Stevens to advance all the way around and score the tying run.

Rasner tossed five innings and held the Keys to a run on two hits with five strikeouts, but did not figure in the decision.

The Dash and Keys conclude their three-game series on Saturday night at Harry Grove Stadium. Winston-Salem will send RHP Anthony Carter (6-4, 3.84) to the mound, while Frederick is expected to turn to LHP Nate Nery (1-3, 4.44).
