Winston-Salem Evens Series at One Game a Piece

For the second evening in a row, the Frederick Keys came from behind to tie the Winston-Salem Dash headed into the ninth inning. This time, though, the Dash scored a run in the ninth inning to defeat the Keys 4-3.

Keys RHP Sean Gleason made his first start in Frederick. The Dash touched him up in the third. C Logan Johnson led off the frame with a solo homer, giving Winston-Salem a 1-0 lead.

The Dash tacked on another run in the fourth. With one man down, DH Seth Loman hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to two.

Frederick cut the deficit in half in the bottom half of the fourth. Fresh off the disabled list, 2B Ryan Adams reached on an infield single. He came around to score on 1B Robbie Widlansky's RBI-double, making it 2-1.

Winston-Salem struck again in the fifth. 2B Dale Mollenhauer singled with one man down. SS Greg Paiml then doubled, putting two in scoring position with one out. 1B Jimmy Gallagher hit a sac fly to left, knocking in Mollenhauer, and making it a 3-1 gmae.

The Keys began chipping away in the sixth. CF Matt Angle led off the inning with a single. 2B Ryan Adams knocked him in on a double, pulling the Keys to within one. Frederick would end up loading the bases with two men down but couldn't push another run across.

In the seventh, Frederick tied the game. With one man down, DH Wally Crancer reached on a throwing error by LHP Wander Perez. Bobby Stevens came in to pinch run. He advanced to second on a passed ball, and to third on a wild pitch. Stevens then scored on another wild pitch, tying the game a three.

The Dash took the lead for good in the ninth. Loman led off the inning with a double to right-center field. Kent Gerst came in to pinch run. He was sacraficed to third by CF Salvador Sanchez, and scored on LF Tyler Kuhn's sac fly to center. It gave the Dash a 4-3 lead, and eventually the win.

RHP Miguel Socolovich got the win. He tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief to pick up his first win of the season. RHP Joe Esposito took the loss. He allowed a run in two innings of work in his first Carolina League appearance. RHP Henry Mabee pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his seventh save of the season.

The Keys and the Dash will meet in the rubber game of this three-game series Saturday night at Harry Grove Stadium. It's Scout Night at the ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM. Fireworks will follow the game. For ticket information, contact the box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
