Loggers take game two, 'Chucks fall 11-2

WAUSAU-June 12, 2011-The Wisconsin Woodchucks dropped game two of a three game home series with La Crosse, falling to the Loggers in a Sunday afternoon matinee, 11-2.

In his first Northwoods League appearance, Brando Tessar, a freshman from Oregon University, stymied the 'Chucks and took the win through seven innings of work, while Jordan Luvisi fell to 0-2 on the season, taking the loss through 3.1 innings.

The visiting Loggers would score in the first inning for the second consecutive night, as Corey LaVier hit a one-out double, before Cameron Flynn would drive him home on a two-out single.

The 'Chucks would answer back in their half of the first, as Tessar allowed a leadoff single to 'Chucks' centerfielder Kyle Secciani, who advanced to second on a Garrett Yrigoyen sacrifice, and scored as Carlos Escobar - who leads the Northwoods League in batting average - would send Secciani home on a two-out single.

After looking steady and comfortable on the mound through his first three innings of work, Woodchucks' starter Jordan Luvisi's promising night was spoiled in the fourth, as five La Crosse runs would come across to score.

Cameron Flynn and Dex Kjerstad led the fourth off with consecutive singles, before advancing to second and third on a subsequent sacrifice bunt. The Loggers would go on to hit three consecutive singles - before a walk, fielder's choice, and another single would make the score 6-1, Loggers.

The Loggers' Tessar settled in after relinquishing one run in the first- not allowing another hit until the sixth inning, where the 'Chucks would get a bases-loaded unearned run on a wild pitch to Alex Grunenwald, trimming the La Crosse lead to four.

After an uneventful seventh frame, Tessar would call it a night - allowing six hits and one walk produce one earned run, while striking out seven.

AJ Carman, who came on in relief of Luvisi in the fourth inning, would work into the ninth, after allowing one Loggers run in the eighth and stranding the bases loaded.

Carman would begin the ninth with a Cameron Flynn groundout, before walking three consecutive batters - and giving way to Jonathon Boersma. On with the bases loaded and one down, Boersma would get his first batter to strikeout swinging, before allowing pinch hitter Blake Shepherd to record his first hit of the season - a two-out grand slam - to make the score 11 -2, Loggers.

The 'Chucks fell to 4-7 after the loss, while the Loggers improved to 6-6, as the teams get set to meet for a game-three rubber match at Athletic Park on Monday night.

Adam Bileckyj (0-0) is scheduled to throw out the first pitch at 6:35 p.m. CDT for the 'Chucks, as he takes on the Loggers' Tim Peterson (0-2).
