Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers News Release
A game that saw stellar pitching performances on both sides would take 14 innings to decide. A walk-off single from Mankato catcher Rudy Wesier in the Bottom of the 14th gave the Moondogs a 2-1 win over the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers Sunday night at Franklin Rogers Park in Mankato.
With the win, the Moondogs move back into 1st place, a half game ahead of the Lunkers.
Aaron Griffin was phenomenal for the Lunkers tonight, going 7 innings. He was perfect through 6 and a third, and then gave up a run in the 7th.
That Moondogs run came via a Scott Sommerfeld single that drove in Shaun Cooper.
The Lunkers would respond in the 8th with a Ryan Abrahamson sacrifice fly that brought home Steven Brault.
The game would go scoreless all the way to the 14th, when the Moondogs loaded the bases on Lunkers reliever Matt Florer with nobody out. After Nick Judkins flew out, Wesier delievered the game-winning single.
The Lunkers fall to (8-4) with the loss. The Moondogs improve to (8-3). Patrick Goelz gets the win for Mankato with Florer taking the loss for Brainerd.
The Lunkers and Moondogs will play the rubber game of the series Monday night at 7:05.
