Green Bay Rockers News Release
Waterloo, IA - June 12th, 2011 - Starter Tim Giel stranded the bases loaded twice in the 2-1 win at Waterloo on Sunday afternoon. Giel stranded eleven runners in his five innings of work to protect a one run lead that the 'Frogs got from Andy Hunter's two-out two RBI double in the third inning.
Green Bay took the lead for good in the top of the third after a lead-off walk by Ryan Allgrove who moved to second on a check swing ground out by Joe Betcher. Nick Stein also walked to put two runners on for Green Bay that both moved into scoring position after a ground out by Billy Moon. With two outs, Andy Hunter laced a double into left center field to give the Bullfrogs a 2-1 lead.
The 'Frogs were down by a run in the top of the third after Waterloo scored first in the bottom of the second with an unearned run. Starter Tim Giel got the first two outs before a single, walk and error loaded the bases for Davis Hendrickson. The first pitch to Hendrickson was deposited into left field for a single to give the Bucks a 1-0 lead.
Waterloo would not score after the second inning although they had their chances. They loaded the bases after two outs in the third inning, but Giel induced a ground out to end that threat. In the fourth, Giel stranded runners at the corners by getting another ground out to second base. Again in the fifth, the first two runners reached base on an infield single and walk. Then Jeremy Lucas bunted them into scoring position. Giel would get a ground ball from Thomas Lindawer to Bullfrogs first baseman Nik Balog who cut down Jeremy Hill at the plate who was going on contact. On the next pitch James Foster popped out to end the inning.
The fifth was the last inning for Tim Giel who allowed just the one unearned run in five innings of work despite allowing seven hits and three walks (both season-highs) and just two strikeouts (a season low). Giel stranded six runners in scoring position during his third start of the year.
Jordan Goldschmitt started for Waterloo and turned in easily the best start of his season allowing just the two runs in seven innings while striking out four. He retired the final 13 Bullfrogs he faced, but got tagged for the loss. John Colella earned the save in exciting fashion. He entered the game in the eighth after two shutout innings from Cory Kyle. Colella pitched around a two out walk in the eighth. In the bottom of the ninth, the closer walked back to back hitters with one out, but got a couple of fly outs to end the game and even up the three game series with the Bucks.
With the win Green Bay improves to 7-5. Austin Blaski will start the finale of the five game road trip on Monday at 6:35 pm. Fans can catch every game while the team is on the road by tuning in at www.greenbaybullfrogs.com.
