Duluth Huskies News Release
Duluth, Minn - The Duluth Huskies and the La Crosse Loggers faced off Monday evening with some fantastic weather and no rain delays. The Loggers took game one last night when they put up an 8 spot in the 8th inning to win 10-8.
The Loggers once again were the team to score first, this time on an Austin Smith balk that brought home Tony Bullard. Ryan Holgate and Cole Elvis were both brought home on RBI singles to stretch La Crosse's lead to three. Huskies Manager Marcus Pointer went to his bullpen quickly as Danny Zimmerman and Austin Smith swapped positions for the last two batters of the inning. But a Huskies error would allow 2 more Loggers to score, making it 5-0 entering the bottom of the 2nd inning. Austin Smith and Zimmerman swapped spots again to start the 3rd inning.
The Huskies responded in their half of the 2nd inning when James Free, who went 2-3 with a walk and scored 2 runs in his Duluth Huskies debut, led off the inning with a double to the left field wall. Free would come home later in the inning on a passed ball to make it 5-1 La Crosse.
La Crosse found the scoreboard once again in the top of the 5th with an RBI double off the bat of Brady Allen scoring Tony Bullard to stretch the Loggers lead to 5. Evan Yedinak would come in to relieve Austin Smith in the 6th, who exited after surrendering 6 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits and struck out 3.
The Loggers Starting Pitcher Nick Eaton would exit in the 6th inning after throwing a solid game giving up 1 run on 6 hits while striking out 3 through 5 and 2/3 IP. Jack Delmore would be his replacement and immediately gave up an Aaron Greenfield RBI single through the left side scoring James Free. Then Milan Walla proceeded to hit a 2 run double to the left-center wall but would be thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple. Duluth would enter the 7th inning only down by 2 runs.
But the Loggers would strike again when Brady Allen found a hole between Nic Kent and Aaron Greenfield to bring home Jacob English making it 7-4. Duluth would manage to bring the Loggers lead back down to 2 after a Nic Kent RBI single scored Noah Marcelo from second.
After giving up 2 runs on 3 hits in relief, Yedinak would be replaced by Logan VanWey in the top of the 8th inning.
In the top of the 9th, the Loggers put up another run to extend their lead to 3 after Tony Bullard scored from 1st on a Kyson Donahue triple into the right-center gap. The Huskies would go three up three down in the bottom of the 9th as La Crosse completed the 2 game sweep with an 8-5 win.
