Local pastor to acquire Baltimore Pearls

June 7, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Baltimore Pearls News Release

Baltimore, MD. Local pastor and entrepreneur, Matthew E. Bradby II announced today that he will be finalizing the purchase of the Baltimore Pearls from owner Melvin Coles within a few days. Pastor Bradby's focus was to help the city of Baltimore maintain its new slogan, "GET IN ON IT" for not just the city but for the ABA in general. "We would like the Baltimore Pearls to be the low cost, fan-friendly entity that will bring fans much excitement and joy while giving area athletes, students and citizens another avenue for success. We want professional basketball to stay in Baltimore for many years to come."

A native of Baltimore, Pastor Bradby is a former high school athlete and area pastor who says, "It's not enough to preach and teach faith but the true test of your worth is when you walk the walk not talk the talk." Pastor Bradby was inspired to purchase the Baltimore Pearls and keep the team in his home town by his spiritual father and mentor, Bishop Eddie L. Long, Senior Pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, GA. "My Bishop says to take authority, not name it and claim it but to let the fruit of your labor be integrity and hardwork. Heaven is not a pie in the sky but an attainable and definable vision. It is a true legacy for future generations that must be cultivated, planned and launched."

He continued, "I believe it's time for Baltimore to get its just reward. We have been supplying the college and professional teams with great athletes for many years but a few have missed their mark. The Baltimore Pearls will be that venue to showcase our powerful venue of great basketball players plus provide the nation another venue for sports team success. The city of Baltimore is large enough and has been starving for quality professional basketball at fan-friendly affordable prices. Our brand of sports entertainment will make an impact in the great city of Baltimore by welcoming all charities to partner with us to help the less fortunate and to bring the church back to the forefront of community involvement.

Pastor Bradby concluded with, "I would like to first thank GOD for this opportunity, Mr. Coles for believing in me, mentoring me and giving me this great opportunity. I also would like to thank all my prayer partners, all our local NBA, NFL, MISL and college supporters, radio personalities, volunteers, and all the fans who support the Baltimore Pearls in the past and I have just one statement left to leave with you...THE BEST IS YET TO COME!"

The Baltimore Pearls are in search of a new Head Coach and coaching staff plus several key persons for our management team. For those who would like to volunteer, exercise internships, employment opportunities or basketball team or dance team, you may send resumes and/or contact information to: baltimorepearls@aol.com, or contact Mattbradby@aol.com or call 443 226 8053 or visit www.abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
