ABA team announced for Cape Cod
June 7, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Cape Cod Frenzy News Release
Hyannis, MA. The Boston Frenzy of the American Basketball Association (ABA) officially exists no more. Filling in the void will be a new ABA team based on the peninsula of Cape Cod. The team will bear the name the 'Cape Cod Frenzy' and is in discussions with several area schools for a home court.
"We felt for our team to be successful in the long run, it needs to be part of a community that identifies with it," explained Frenzy GM Ian McCarthy, "and that is what we are seeking to do; to become a community-based team and to bring high level basketball and quality entertainment to the people of Cape Cod."
Former Boston Frenzy principal owner and GM, Dan Savage, is now GM and co-owner of the new Las Vegas Venom ABA team. The Cape Cod Frenzy is comprised of a new ownership group of local Cape Cod and Nantucket investors. The Cape Cod Frenzy's management has a full itinerary for the summer including: searching for a Head Coach, planning tryout camps, implementing a merchandising program and several soon to be announced summer programs.
Frenzy co-owner Greg Warfield added, "Now the hard work begins; we have to educate the community about the team and start to build our business and our basketball team."
The team's website will be www.capcodfrenzy.com (currently under construction). For more information, please contact GM Ian McCarthy at imccarthy@nextel.blackberry.net or visit www.abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams. For information on professional minor leagues, please see OSC's basketball section.
