Riptide schedules free agent tryout camp
June 7, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Oregon Riptide News Release
Portland, OR. The ABA Oregon Riptide professional basketball team is getting set to begin play this November and feels that the upcoming free agent tryout camp set for July 2nd will be a vital part of putting the team together. "There is no draft in the ABA. All players are signed as free agents. This camp will be the cornerstone of those efforts," said owner J. Brice. "I will be a very involved owner much like George Steinbrenner or Mark Cuban and if a player can play and wants to become part of our community, I will welcome him."
The free agent camp is set to begin at 830am with registration and workouts beginning at 9am. Along with J. Brice, several coaches and basketball operations personnel will be there to evaluate the talent. "Every team has to start somewhere," added Brice, "here is our start. I hope that players nationwide will take advantage of this opportunity."
Applicants should be prepared for a complete evaluation of their professionalism as well as their basketball knowledge and ability. To pre-register on-line, please send your player resume to dejavu2k3@msn.com . The tryout will be held at Warner Pacific College. For direction, visit www.warnerpacific.edu/aboutwpc/location.asp.
Our goal for the upcoming season is to bring an ABA Championship to Oregon. We'll provide local and national exposure opportunities for the players, staff and coaches. We will also bring high scoring, exciting and fun-filled family entertainment at affordable prices to the metropolitan area of Portland. Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
