St. Lucie Mets News Release

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets won their series opener over the Clearwater Threshers 4-1 at Spectrum Field on Thursday.

Starting pitcher Gabriel Llanes limited the Threshers to one run on a solo homer in 6.2 innings. Llanes scattered 10 hits. He walked one batter, struck out one batter and threw 100 pitches.

The Mets only collected six hits, but a couple were long balls. Jeremy Vasquez slugged a two-out, two-run homer off of the rehabbing Jerad Eickhoff in the first inning. Eickhoff (lat strain) was making his second rehab start for the Phillies.

Edgar Cabral hit a leadoff homer for the Threshers in the second to make it 2-1.

Wilmer Reyes, making just his second start for St. Lucie since coming over from the GCL, stunned the Threshers by hitting a home run in the third to put the Mets up 3-1.

Anthony Dimino reached on an error in the fifth inning and would go on to score on a double play for the final run of the game.

Adam Atkins pitched 1.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Stephen Villines worked a perfect ninth for his fourth save. He struck out two and lowered his ERA to 0.43.

Vasquez and Reyes each had two hits for the Mets.

Four Threshers had multi-hit games, including Daniel Brito, who went 3 for 4. However, the Threshers never got the big knock.

Part of Llanes' success was getting off to good starts. He retired the first two batters in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Eickhoff was charged for three runs on two hits over three innings. Adonis Medina followed Eickhoff and tossed six innings. He gave up one unearned run.

The Mets (19-26, 46-66) and Threshers (29-17, 61-53) play game 2 of their series at Spectrum Field on Friday. First pitch is 6:15 p.m.
