Clearwater Threshers News Release

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Daniel Brito went 3-for-4 on the night and Edgar Cabral launched his fifth long ball of the season, but Clearwater fell 4-1 against the St. Lucie Mets on Thursday night at Spectrum Field.

Jerad Eickhoff took the loss for the Threshers in his second rehab start for Clearwater, allowing three runs on two hits while walking one and striking out four in his scheduled three innings of work. Eickhoff was placed on the Philles disabled list on March 29 with a right lat strain.

Clearwater (29-17) (61-53) remains atop the FSL North despite the loss, leading Dunedin by half a game with 23 games left in the regular season.

Brito knocked a couple of opposite field hits and an infield single to lead the offensive efforts for Clearwater. Brito started his sixth game for the Threshers since being added from the Lakewood BlueClaws on August 3.

St. Lucie (19-26) (46-66) struck in the top of the first. Gene Cone drew a one out walk and stole second to put himself in scoring position. After a strikeout put Michael Paez away, Jeremy Vazquez stepped up and delivered a two-run homer over the wall in right, giving the Mets the early 2-0 lead.

The Threshers cut the deficit in the second inning off a solo shot from Edgar Cabral. Cabral lined a ball into the left field corner that just stayed fair for his fifth long ball of the season, bringing the score within one at 2-1.

St. Lucie grabbed that run back in the third. Wilmer Reyes swung at the first pitch of the inning, launching a solo shot into the bullpen in left field to extend the lead 3-1.

The Mets added on in the fifth. Anthony Dimino reached second on an error by the left fielder Grenny Cumana, and Reyes sent a grounder into left field to put men at the corners with no outs. Luis Carpio grounded into a 4-6-3 double play, but the run scored, extending the Mets lead to 4-1.

Adonis Medina took over in the fourth, spinning six innings in his first relief appearance of the season. He yielded one unearned run on four hits, permitting three walks and striking out five.

Clearwater and St. Lucie face off again on Friday night for Prostate Cancer Awareness Night at Spectrum Field. David Parkinson (1-0) gets the nod for the Threshers against Blake Taylor (1-5) for the Mets, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:15 p.m. Kirsten Karbach will be on the call for the Threshers Broadcast Network, with the pregame show beginning at 6:00 p.m.
