
Livingston Stifles Barnstormers

Bobby Livingston checked the Lancaster Barnstormers on three hits over seven innings Saturday evening, pitching the host Sugar Land Skeeters to a 5-2 victory at Constellation Field.
The game was played in front of a crowd of 7,586.
Livingston (2-2) faced the minimum of 14 batters over the first 4 2/3 innings and eventually yielded three singles and two walks while striking out one. He carried a shutout for 5 2/3 innings. The left-hander retired 13 batters on ground balls in his seven-inning stint.
Sugar Land gave him a 1-0 lead in the first on Josh Pressley's sacrifice fly to left that scored Iggy Suarez from third. Ofilio Castro tripled with one out in the fourth off Mark Brackman (1-2) and scored on Ben Harrison's grounder to short.
The Skeeters continued to build the lead in the fifth. Suarez reached on a one-out error by third baseman Jesus Merchan. Jason Botts snuck a single into right, and Pressley walked to load the bases. Castro grounded a base hit into the right side hole to score one before Brackman got out of the inning on a strikeout and a bouncer back to the mound.
Blake Gailen drove in a run with a two-out RBI single in the sixth, following a walk to Adam Godwin and a balk by Livingston, but the Skeeters produced two more in the bottom of the inning. Dominic Ramos scored the first on a wild pitch by reliever Jason Urquidez. Castro made it 5-1 with his third opposite field hit of the night. On the play Fehlandt Lentini gunned down Iggy Suarez at the plate as Francisco Hernandez survived the collision.
Lancaster made the game interesting in the eighth. Jaime Pedroza led off with a five pitch walk, and Hernandez followed with a single into the right center alley. Godwin located the hole on the right side to plate Pedroza and bring the tying run to the plate.
Sugar Land manager Gary Gaetti summoned Gary Majewski from the pen, and the right-hander slammed the door, retiring six in a row for his second save.
The series concludes Sunday evening at 7:05 EDT as John Halama (3-2) squares off against Derrick Gordon (1-1) in a battle of left-handers. The game will be aired on WLAN, 1390-AM, WPDC, 1600-AM and their respective web sites.
NOTES: Godwin has now hit safely in 16 straight, four shy of Matt LeCroy's franchise record...Terry Tiffee has hit in nine in a row...Lancaster's staff struck out a season-high 13...The Barnstormers were held to without an extra base hit for the first time since April 29...Lancaster had five hits, a new season low...Lancaster has lost four straight games facing a left-handed starter...The Barnstormers are 2-4 on the road trip and slipped into second place, one-half game behind Somerset.
