Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs came up short in game one of the American Association Championship Series, losing 7-6 to Pensacola in 11 innings. Lincoln trails 1-0 in the best-of-five series.

A defensive miscue cost Lincoln dearly in extra innings. In the top of the eleventh, Adam Deleo reached on an error by Albenis Machado, the Saltdogs' third error of the night. A bunt moved Deleo to second, and Lou Palmisano cracked an RBI double off of Lincoln reliever Adam Daniels (1-1) to drive in the winning run. Pensacola closer Hunter Davis worked a perfect bottom of the eleventh to close out the ballgame.

Before extras, the Saltdogs had kept finding ways to come back against the Pelicans. Trailing 3-1 after the top of the third, Lincoln scored a run in the bottom of the inning to pull within a run, and tied it in the fourth on a solo homer by Gavin Dickey. Pensacola surged ahead in the fifth on a Palmisano homer, but Argelis Nuñez tied it again on his solo shot in the sixth. The Pelicans scored twice in the seventh to take a 6-4 advantage, but Nuñez came up with the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the seventh, and hit a two-run single to tie things up at six.

Nuñez ended the night 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Shawn McGill also had a pair of hits for Lincoln, including an RBI double that gave Lincoln a brief 1-0 lead in the second inning. The Saltdogs managed just six hits on the night overall.

Game Two of the American Association Championship Series takes place Wednesday night at 7:05 at Haymarket Park, with righty Jim Paduch on the mound for Lincoln. Tickets can be purchased by calling 474-BALL (2255).
