Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Lincoln Saltdogs lost in heartbreaking fashion on Wednesday, falling 4-3 in 11 innings at Sioux Falls. Lincoln trails the Pheasants two games to none in the best-of-five division series.
With the game tied at three in the bottom of the eleventh, Brandon Sing led off with a double and went to third on a sacrifice bunt. Lincoln intentionally walked the bases loaded, hoping for an inning-ending double play, but Eddy Rodriguez instead hit a fly ball to right against Saltdogs reliever Tycen PoVey (0-1). Rafael Alvarez caught the ball and fired a strike to the plate, but it was just a hair too late as Sing scored the winning run.
Sioux Falls took a 2-0 lead in the first against Saltdogs starter John James, but the tall righty settled down after that and gave up just one more run over the next six innings. Lincoln loaded the bases with nobody out in the fourth and scored on an RBI bunt single by Brandon Jones, but the 'Dogs left the bases loaded without adding any more runs. The Pheasants scored a run of their own in the fourth, but in the sixth, Phil Hawke tied the game for Lincoln with a two-run home run.
Lincoln put the leadoff man on base in eight of the 11 innings, but struggled to get clutch hits, leaving 11 men on base, including leaving the bags loaded in the fourth and seventh innings. Juan Camacho went 3-for-4 for Lincoln, but no other Saltdogs hitter had more than one hit.
Game three of the best-of-five series takes place Friday night at 7:05 at Haymarket Park. Right-hander Chris Cullen is scheduled to make the start for the Saltdogs.
