DURHAM, NC -- The American Association of Independent Professional Baseball announced today that Sioux Falls Pheasants OF Beau Torbert and Fort Worth Cats RHP Dwayne Pollok (pictured) have been named the Teamline Direct Batter and Pitcher of the Month for August. The selection was made by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the American Association.

Torbert, the 2010 American Association Player of the Year, finished the regular season strong by batting .450 (45-for-100) and roping 12 doubles and seven home runs en route to a terrific .780 slugging percentage. He collected 27 RBI and scored 18 runs of his own, and set single-season American Association records in hits (155) and batting average (.394). Additionally, he helped Sioux Falls take a 1-0 advantage in their best-of-five playoff series against Lincoln with a go-ahead solo home run in the eighth inning of a pitcher's duel Tuesday night. Torbert's excellent August helped him finish the season tops in the league in a slew of offensive categories, including RBI (100), total bases (269), extra-base hits (64), and finishing a close second in home runs (24) and slugging percentage (.684). The 27-year-old was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 17th round of the 2004 MLB Draft.

Pollok made five starts in August and compiled a perfect 3-0 record, and he last suffered a loss July 7th against El Paso. He threw 34.2 innings in all on the month and struck out 30 against just ten walks, while holding opposing hitters to a .189 batting average. In Pollok's two August no-decisions against Pensacola, he threw a combined 14 innings, allowing just three earned runs, six hits, and striking out 13. His 2.85 ERA on the month led the Cats' staff, and lowered his season ERA to 4.00, good for tenth in the league. Pollok was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 27th round of the 2003 MLB Draft.
