Torbert Adds More Accolades to Long List

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Beau Torbert may need a bigger mantel.
Two days after naming him the 2010 Player of the Year, the American Association announced on Wednesday that the Sioux Falls Pheasants' slugger was dubbed the Teamline Direct Player of the Month for August. The selection was made by Teamline Direct, which provides access to games from anywhere in the world using any telephone. In addition, he was also selected as the Poinstreak Player of the Week for the final week of August. Poinstreak is the official statistician of the American Association.
During the month of August, Torbert put up mammoth numbers. He batted .450 while belting seven home runs and collecting 27 RBI. He slugged .780 and reached base with a .476 on-base percentage.
Torbert hit safely in all but three games and had 14 multi-hit games. He broke both the franchise and league records for hits in a season.
On Tuesday Torbert hit a game-winning home run to give the Pheasants a victory in Game 1 of the North Division Finals.
Torbert is the second Pheasant to be named a Player of the Month this season. Brandon Sing earned the honor in June. Reggie Abercrombie, Brian Flores, Chris Salberg and Sing have all earned Player of the Week honors this year as well.
The Pheasants are in the postseason for the third time in team history. They host Game 2 of the North Division finals at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1 at Sioux Falls Stadium. The series is a best-of-five format with the winner advancing to the championship series.
