Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
BURLINGTON, VT - The Renegades and Lake Monsters will have to wait until tomorrow to decide game two of their three-game set. That's because lightning and approaching severe weather in the area forced the suspension of the contest with the teams knotted up at two apiece in the 10th inning. The game will resume at 6:05 tomorrow, just before the teams square off for the third and final game of the series.
Vermont started the scoring with a run in the first. After second-baseman Nate Mondou led off the inning with a single, shortstop Eli White doubled him to third with no one out. From there, leftfielder Luis Barrera grounded to second to score Mondou and give the Lake Monsters a 1-0 lead. Following a hit batter, Vermont had runners at the corners with one out, however Renegades starter Spencer Moran got a lineout to short and a flyout to left to prevent further damage.
Hudson Valley got the run back in the second. With two out and no one aboard, the Renegades put together three consecutive singles with the final one from designated hitter Angel Perez scoring catcher Danny De La Calle from second.
The Renegades would then take the lead in the third. With one out, leftfielder Garrett Whitley struck out but was able to reach first on a wild pitch by Lake Monsters starter A.J. Puk, who was then taken out of the game after reaching his pitch count before facing the next hitter. Reliever Xavier Altamirano would come in and give up a double to centerfielder Jake Fraley to put runners at second and third with one out. Third baseman Jim Haley then came to the plate and lifted a sac fly to left to score Whitley and give Hudson Valley a 2-1 lead.
Things stayed that way until the eighth inning. Renegades reliever Jayson McKinley was cruising along having retired the first seven men he faced before White (1) drilled his first homer of the year, a solo shot over the leftfield wall, to tie the game at two.
Hudson Valley came up empty, despite getting two runners on base, in the 10th. With lightning continuing to flash around Centennial Field, the game was halted just before the start of the bottom of the 10th.
In the ninth, Vermont had a chance to win the game by loading the bases with one out. Hudson Valley reliever Deivy Mendez got centerfielder James Terrell to strike out for out number two. After that, Mondou and Mendez locked in a duel that saw Mondou work the count to 2-2 and foul off pitch after pitch. Finally, after several foul balls, Mondou took a pitch low, however with designated hitter JaVon Shelby dancing down the line at third, Renegaes catcher Danny De La Calle fired to third to catch Shelby in a rundown and get Hudson Valley out of the jam.

Though he won't figure in the decision, reliever Noel Rodriguez (2-1) was solid in his second consecutive start, firing five innings of one run ball on four hits. Despite allowing the tying homerun, McKinley retired nine of the 10 men he faced in three innings of work while striking out four.
After Puk left, relievers Xavier Altamirano, Dalton Sawyer and Yordy Alejo combined to hold the Renegades scoreless on seven hits in 7.2 innings while striking out five.
Hudson Valley got two hits apiece from De La Calle and Perez. De La Calle scored a run while Perez tripled and drove in a run. Mondou and White combined to 4-8 atop the Vermont order with each scoring a run. White had a double, homer and RBI while going 2-4.
After the completion of the suspended game Saturday, right-hander Spencer Moran (2-1, 2.55 ERA) will go for the Renegades against righty Heath Bowers (2-4, 3.24 ERA) of the Lake Monsters in tomorrow's regularly scheduled game. Hudson Valley returns home Sunday to begin a three-game set with the Aberdeen Ironbirds. First-pitch is set for 5:05. For tickets, call 845-838-0094 or go to hvrenegades.com.
