Vermont Lake Monsters News Release
BURLIGTON, VT --- The New York-Penn League game between Hudson Valley and Vermont Friday night at historic Centennial Field was suspended in the bottom of the 10th inning with the game tied 2-2.
The game will resume on Saturday at 5:05 pm with the Lake Monsters coming to bat in the bottom of the 10th and played to completion. The two teams will then play their regularly scheduled game.
Vermont had tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning on a one-out 346-foot solo homer from Eli White. The Lake Monsters had a chance to win the game in the ninth with the bases loaded and one out, but James Terrell struckout and JaVon Shelby was picked off third base by catcher Danny De la Calle with Nate Mondou batting.
The Lake Monsters earlier took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the seventh straight home game that Vermont has scored at least one run in the bottom of the first inning. Mondou led off with a single, advanced to third on a White double and scored on a Luis Barrera RBI groundout.
Hudson Valley tied the game in the second on three straight one-out singles off Vermont starter A.J. Puk, then took a 2-1 lead in third on a Jim Haley sacrifice fly after a Jake Fraley double had moved Garrett Whitley to third base.
Puk allowed two runs on three hits with three strikeouts over the first 1 1/3 innings, while reliever Xavier Altamirano gave up just four hits with one walk and three strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings to lower his ERA to 0.84 (three earned runs over 32 innings). The first two batters in the bottom of the 10th for Vermont will be Mondou and White, who both have two hits in the game.
Along with the completion of Friday's game and Saturday's scheduled contest, it is also Star Wars Night at the ballpark and there will be post-game fireworks show following the games.
