Lexington Eclipses Hagerstown in 11-1 Victory

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) "" The Lexington Legends took game two in dramatic fashion over the Hagerstown Suns, 11-1. The Legends stay atop the Southern Division Standings and are now 3.0 games up on the Greenville Drive who are in second place.

The Suns plated their only run of the game in the top of the second inning. Omar Meregildo blasted a solo homer to left field and Hagerstown was on the board, 1-0.

Lexington scored their first runs in the third inning. Kyle Isbel led off the inning with a double to centerfield. The pitcher, Tim Cate, then tried to pick off Isbel, but the throw went into centerfield. Centerfielder Armond Upshaw then had trouble locating the ball and Isbel was able to score. Nick Pratto then smashed a solo home run to left field and the Legends led, 2-1.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Cal Jones reached on a single then moved to second on an error. Carlos Diaz then reached on a single and the Legends had runners on the corners. MJ Melendez then hit a groundout out allowing Jones to score. Pratto doubled Diaz home and the Legends doubled their runs, 4-1.

Manny Olloque lined a leadoff single to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning. Cristian Perez then grounded an RBI double down the left field line scoring Olloque. Lexington led 5-1 after the fifth inning.

The Legends broke the game open in the bottom of the seventh inning. Brewer Hicklen was hit by a pitch then stole second base. Olloque then hit a single to left field and Lexington had runners on the corners. Sebastian Rivero singled home Hicklen while moving Olloque to second base. An RBI single by Perez scored Olloque and the Legends still had two men on. Jones then crushed a bases clearing triple to the centerfield wall, and Lexington led 9-1. With Jones on third, Diaz hit an RBI single to left field and the Legends led 10-1. Diaz scored the final run of the game on an RBI single by Olloque.

Olloque finished the night with a season high four-hits with two runs scored and an RBI. Perez recorded four hits with two doubles, one run scored and an RBI.

Daniel Duarte was awarded the victory for the Legends tossing 3.0 shutout innings allowing one walk and striking out five. Lexington's starter Daniel Lynch pitched the first 3.0 innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out two. Tim Cate was given the loss for Hagerstown throwing 4.0 innings allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits while walking three and striking out three.

The Legends and Suns meet again tomorrow, August 25 at 6:35 p.m. Lexington will send RHP Yefri Del Rosario (5-5, 3.68 ERA) to face Hagerstown's RHP Andrew Lee (NR).
