CHARLESTON, S.C. - The RiverDogs were held scoreless by the Greenville Drive until the eighth inning on Friday night, but Charleston pushed across the equalizer before designated hitter Dermis Garcia drove home the winning run in the bottom of the 10th, capping the 2-1 walk-off victory in front of 5,218 Riley Park goers.

Minor League Baseball's pace-of-play rules put the right fielder Vidal on second base to start 10th, and after shortstop Oswaldo Cabrera advanced him to third on a sacrifice, Garcia poked the game-winner into centerfield against lefty Rio Gomez (0-1). The Dogs' (59-67, 26-32) last two victories have come in extra innings including their 3-2 victory in West Virginia on Sunday. The Holy City has gone 4-7 in extra frames under the new rule.

Daniel Alvarez (2-2) earned his second victory in as many appearances, stranding the potential go-ahead run at third in the top of the 10th. The Venezuelan right-hander has allowed two earned runs in his first 10 appearances with Charleston, good for a 1.15 ERA in 15 2/3 innings.

The game was scoreless until Greenville (58-71, 33-27) pushed across the first run on Garrett Benge's RBI double off reliever Dalton Higgins. The Fort Worth, Texas native relieved Alex Mauricio after the right-hander pitched 6 1/3 one-hit innings, facing one over the minimum, before being lifted after his fifth strikeout. The 21-year-old has delivered at least six scoreless innings in three of his last four starts, and the Virginia-born hurler has a 0.38 ERA over his last four outings (24 innings, one earned run), lowering his overall ERA to a season-low 4.82 with Charleston.

A Ryan Lidge infield single plated Oswaldo Cabrera in the bottom of the eighth against reliever Zach Schellenger. Lidge was reassigned from Double-A Trenton before Friday's game, but the Notre Dame product played in two games with Charleston in late April.

Lidge's run-scoring dribbler snapped a 16-inning scoreless streak for the RiverDogs. Charleston had been shut out in three of their previous four games and had a 23-inning scoreless skid on their most recent road trip, the longest for the Dogs since 2015.

With Friday's final, the RiverDogs have now played in a league-high 54 one-run games this season, contests in which they have gone 24-30.

Ballpark Fun

Those weren't 99 luft balloons beyond right field. They were Home Telecom postgame fireworks set to the songs of "one-hit wonders." The RiverDogs and Home Telecom will put on one more postgame firework display during the final homestand on Friday, August 31, one of six home games remaining at Riley Park.

Upcoming

Saturday's game three starts at 6:05 as Charleston right-hander Roansy Contreras (0-2, 4.38) battles Greenville righty Eduard Bazardo (1-1, 2.25). It is "Toys foR US Night" at The Joe, honoring the world's largest toy store's closing. Saturday's contest can be tuned into on "The Big Talker" WTMA 1250 AM in the tri-county area and with online streaming audio via the RiverDogs' TuneIn radio station.

RiverDogs single-game tickets, including options to the Riley Park Club, are available for the remainder of the 2018 campaign, the club's 25th season as the RiverDogs and their "175th season in dog years." Ticket information can be secured by contacting the box office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) or online at www.riverdogs.com.
