
Lethbridge Edges Hitmen in First-Place Showdown

Lethbridge, AB - In a battle for first place in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference, the Lethbridge Hurricanes edged the Calgary Hitmen 4-3 on Saturday night at the ENMAX Centre.
The win moves the Hurricanes two points ahead of Calgary for the penthouse and improves Lethbridge to a league best 15-3 on home ice.
Arvin Atwal led the 'Canes with a goal and an assist with Ryan Vandervlis, Brayden Burke, and Giorgio Estephan rounding out the scoring for Lethbridge who never trailed, building leads of 1-0, 3-1 and 4-2.
Calgary Flames prospect Pavel Karnaukhov scored a pair of goals for the Hitmen with Andrew Fyten adding a single. Jackson Houck chipped in two assists.
Calgary outshot Lethbridge 33-27 with Stuart Skinner making 30 saves for the Hurricanes and Cody Porter recording 23 for the Hitmen.
Calgary, 25-14-1-1, will return home tomorrow to welcome the Brandon Wheat Kings on Sun. Jan. 3. Game time is 4:00 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Join the Hitmen for Sunday Funday, presented by Booster Juice and McKnight 24 Hour Veterinary Hospital. The game features face painters and a post-game family skate. All participants 18 and under are required to wear a helmet. A special kids ticket price of $7.50 (plus applicable fees) for children 12 and under is offered for all Sunday Funday games.
